Grigory Ivliev speech: "Combining the efforts of business and Rospatent will create conditions for successful innovation activities"

The Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev held a briefing on November 18, 2020, with members of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) - representatives of more than 500 international companies from more than 20 countries doing business in Russia. Grigory Ivliev spoke about the peculiarities of filing applications for registration of a new object of intellectual rights - Geographical Indication (GI). During the conversation issues related to counterfeit were also raised, which will help protect the market from the original marking of goods specially developed by Rospatent, protected as GIs and Appellations of Origin (AO). Rospatent is also developing a register of patented pharmacologically active substances, which will promptly inform all interested parties about the availability of patent rights for the original drug and prevent generics from entering the market until the expiration date of the reference drug. The briefing participants discussed the Law on Preliminary Information Search and Preliminary Assessment of Patentability, which makes it possible to attract specialized Russian scientific and educational organizations. According to Grigory Ivliev, the creation of a flexible system with the involvement of outsourcing organizations and their connection to the information systems of Rospatent will allow not only getting trained experts with knowledge and experience in narrow fields, but also significantly improving the quality of patents. According to Tadzio Schilling, AEB General Director, Rospatent is actively working to create a digital intellectual property system that will create a full-fledged market and adapt to the challenges of the digital economy.
