Patents are going into numbers: A strategy for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights will be developed in the Russian Federation
According to the Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, in 2021 the Office is putting into commercial operation a number of state information systems based on domestic software equipment which allow working with the entire world patent fund and scientific and technical information.
In 2020, in Russia as in other countries there was an increase in patent activity in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors - by 22% compared to 2019. The department has prepared a draft procedure for maintaining the Unified Register of Pharmacologically Active Substances which includes information on chemical compounds that are referred to as reference patents. The creation of the register will transfer control over the observance of intellectual rights from the stage of litigation to the stage of introducing the drug into civil circulation.
Rospatent works closely with WIPO and actively participates in all its activities, as well as puts forward its own initiatives. The Office also works in the BRICS organization forming joint positions on intellectual property issues. Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin instructed several federal executive bodies to work out a draft strategic document on the protection of intellectual property. This work is headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. Now, the fundamental conceptual foundations of the new strategy are being worked out.
