Rospatent and FIPS discussed the development of cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

On March 31, 2022, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS), the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) carried out an online meeting with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) supported by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the OIC and the Russian Embassy in Pakistan.
The parties discussed the potential strengthening of cooperation on capacity-building, awareness-raising and the development of competencies in the field of intellectual property. One of the main topics of the discussion was the patent analytics as a proactive tool for science, technology and innovation administration and governance intended to support economic sectors and industries in a wide range of tasks, for instance, choosing investment areas, assessing technological competitiveness and revealing the commercialization potential of products.
Following the meeting, the participants agreed to draft a cooperation plan with the OIC COMSTECH. The document is to be signed during KazanSummit 2022, where Rospatent will arrange a special session “Patent analytics for cooperation between Russia and the OIC Member States and the implementation of the OIC STI AGENDA 2026”.
