Rospatent: 500 applications for inventions to combat viruses filed since April

According to the Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev’s statement during the press conference «Year of fight against COVID-19: the most significant Russian inventions», 500 applications for inventions and utility models in the field of technology to combat viruses and related diseases were submitted since April 2020; patents were granted for 131 applications. Mr. Ivliev mentioned that the first patent for coronavirus vaccine was granted in Russia. Patents for drugs, test systems, disinfectants were granted as well.
Since April 2020, Rospatent undertakes efforts on accelerating examination of applications related to COVID-19. A special interaction was established with patent officies dealing with this subject. This approach made it possible to quickly respond to the application: an average term of the first action is 23 work days; in 2-3 months the consideration of the application is completed and the decision is made.
