Inventors Will Be Allowed to Attach 3D Models to Patent Applications

Law which entered into force on January 17, 2021, introduces changes in the Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, expanding the use of electronic technologies. It is now possible for applicants to attach three-dimensional models of the claimed objects in digital form to the materials of patent applications for inventions, utility models, industrial designs and applications for state registration of trademarks.

Rospatent will use them in the examination, thus allowing to facilitate and accelerate the registration procedure with the use of algorithm of recognition and comparison of the presented three-dimensional models with the IP objects included in the state registers. The law also introduces the digitalization of the certificates for registration of trademarks and appellations of origin, topographies of integrated circuits, computer software and databases.
