New Business Model for Folk Arts
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Told about the Methods of Conservation and Development of Folk Arts of Peoples of Russia

Due to coronavirus pandemic the volume of sales of folk artistic crafts (NHP) decreased by 70%. As a result, on May 12, 2020, by the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the sphere of folk artistic crafts was included in the list of the industries most affected by the pandemic. According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Gulnaz Kadyrova, the Ministry prepared the first draft of amendments for the Basic Law on Supporting and Developing Folk Artistic Crafts and plans to introduce it in the IV quarter of 2020 to the State Duma. The initiative aims at protecting intellectual property unique traditions and forming an economic model that will allow folk arts enterprises to pay decent salaries to craftsmen and ensure product sales. The draft introduces new concepts - “creative laboratory of folk artistic crafts”, “folk arts scientific and creative group”, and also clarifies the concepts, such as: “craftsman”, “folk arts enterprise”, “author of the work”, “creative workshop” and other concepts.
