Fashion contract: Patents will be issued twice as fast

According to Grigory Ivliev, Head of Rospatent, the Office will halve the time for consideration of applications for registration of rights to industrial designs, including designer clothes and other items fashion for which is changing rapidly, and it is important for manufacturers to protect their developments from copying by competitors even before bringing new products to the market. The procedure used at the moment takes up to six months and involves an expert checking the novelty of the patent application in full. To speed up the procedure of granting patents, the Office decided to introduce an opposition procedure. Subject to compliance of the received application with formal grounds, the application is published on the website of Rospatent. If an objection is received from interested parties, an examination is carried out, and if no objection is received, a patent is granted.
