Russia and China continue cooperation in the field of intellectual property

On June 29-30, 2022, the 13th meeting of the Russian-Chinese Working Group on Cooperation in the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights was held in a videoconference format.

The participants noted the strengthening of bilateral trade and economic relations, the maintenance of relationships at all levels, the development of cooperation in the field of intellectual property both in the bilateral format and on international fora.

Main trends in the development of the Russian IP system were presented to the Chinese colleagues: the protection of geographical indications and joining the Lisbon system, the regulation of patent attorneys’ activities, the introduction of 3D models as application materials, possibility to register trademarks for natural persons, protection against false geographical references in trademarks.

The participants discussed the implementation of initiatives on the legal protection of geographical indications and assistance to right holders in ensuring the protection of intellectual property, exchanged relevant information on judicial practices and the fight against counterfeit products.

Moon base heater

Patent number: 2774728

The temperature of the Moon's surface is extreme. It can reach 127 °C during the day and minus 173°C at night. Day and night each last on the Moon’s surface for about two Earth weeks, since the Moon makes a complete revolution around its axis in 27 Earth days. Therefore, for a moon base it is vital to have a heat accumulator with a mass of about hundreds of tons. The patented invention is such an accumulator designed to be used on a lunar base.

The invention proposes to prepare the material with good thermal storage properties out of lunar dust. A heat exchanger is placed into lunar dust at a depth of 5-10 meters where it is connected by a pipeline to a heat source (for example, a solar radiation concentrator). The heat thus ensures the melting of lunar dust around the heat exchanger. The melting continues until the necessary volume of glass mass is formed from the melting of the lunar dust. This glass mass together with the heat exchanger forms a heat accumulator.

The invention greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of the lunar base construction by allowing to produce a heat accumulator from local materials.

A safer information transfer

Patent number: 2774743

When transmitting information through communication channels, there is always a risk of it being “leaked” to third unauthorized parties. In case of unauthorized reception, information can be recognized by the individual structure of the emitted signals. The proposed invention allows to counteract information extraction systems that use recognition of the individual structure of signals.

To achieve this, the data is divided into fragments of a determined length at the transmitting station, processed using a distortion function, the number of which is determined by the generator of random functions. The frequency of the formed signal is raised/lowered to the required value, after which the signal is amplified and radiated into the space. The receiving station decrypts the received signal in accordance with the number of the distortion function used. The number of the distortion function used is determined according to the random number generated in the receiving station in synchrony with the transmitting station.

The use of several distortion functions reduces the effectiveness of unauthorized information reception.

Improved ethylene propylene rubber production

Patent number: 2774833

Researchers from Rosneft have patented a precatalyst for the production of synthetic ethylene propylene rubber, a catalytic system for its production and the method of producing this rubber.

Currently, three types of catalytic systems are known in the art that can be used for the production of ethylene propylene or ethylene propylene diene elastomeric materials: classical Ziegler–Natta catalysts, metallocene and post-metallocene catalysts.

The disadvantage of Ziegler–Natta catalysts is that they produce polymers with insufficiently good physical and mechanical characteristics and their low catalytic activity. As for metallocenes, are very sensitive to moisture and oxygen impurities, so that additional purification of solvents and monomers is required, increasing the cost of production.

The inventors have developed a new catalytic system for producing synthetic ethylene propylene rubber. It contains a coordination complex of titanium (IV) with an organic ligand from the derivatives of 2-hydroxymethylphenol. The resulting catalyst demonstrated effective production of synthetic rubber with good characteristics. The high yield of rubbers is ensured by the catalytic system made up of affordable and stable precatalysts.

Rospatent delegation took part in the 63rd series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO

on 14-22 July 2022, Rospatent delegation headed by Head of Rospatent Yury Zubov took part in the 63rd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Quadcopter for remote monitoring of electric power facilities

Patent number: 2776589

Scientists of the St. Petersburg Mining University have invented a device for remote monitoring of electric power facilities.

The device is a quadcopter with a satellite navigation module, an ultraviolet flaw detector, a thermal imaging camera, a high-resolution video camera and a laser rangefinder. The device is equipped with at least four electric motors and a battery that provides power feed. This equipment allows the drone to simultaneously monitor several parameters of power lines in various weather conditions.

The device significantly increases the efficiency of electric power facilities remote monitoring by using several independent measuring instruments, as well as more accurate focusing of these instruments on the inspected object. The invention can be used for monitoring power lines in areas that are hard to reach or remote from populated areas.
