According to the Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev in the pharmaceutical industry the competition unfolds directly with the participation of patent organizations. Currently Russia has registered two basic vaccines for the treatment of COVID-19 and two of their modifications. In total, at the beginning of November 2020 the Office received more than 400 applications for inventions and utility models created to combat the virus, decisions were made on 118 applications, more than 90 patents were issued. One of the most important areas in the field of patenting in Russia as well as throughout the world is pharmaceuticals, the second most important area is IT, as well as quantum and biotechnologies, which are widely used in information technologies. At the same time, computer programs, topology of integrated circuits, and databases are registered separately. Rospatent is the one of the leading patent offices considering these applications. Also a large number of applications stand out: petrochemistry, engine building, food industry, agriculture, transport. There are also more highly specialized niches, for example space technology, mining. Russia remains a leading scientific and technological power and this is reflected including in the field of patenting.
