The first organization accredited to conduct preliminary information search and preliminary evaluation of patentability

The Volgograd State Medical University became the first organization in Russia to be accredited by Rospatent as an organization authorized to conduct preliminary information search and preliminary evaluation of the patentability of inventions and utility models.

The use of the capabilities of leading scientific and educational organizations for the purposes of preliminary information search and preliminary evaluation of the patentability will increase the quality of patents.

The accreditation was preceded by careful preparatory work: Rospatent and the Federal Institute of Industrial Property have developed an extensive regulatory framework, which defines the conditions that the external organizations should meet to be accredited by Rospatent.

Institutions from Saransk, Samara and Rostov-on-Don are ready to follow the example of the Volgograd State Medical University. They have already submitted the relevant documents for accreditation, which are currently under consideration.

Long lasting energy source

Patent number: 2777413

The invention relates to radioisotope energy sources operating by the radioactive decay of isotopes. Such sources are used where hardware autonomy, reliability, light weight and moderate dimensions are essential.

Radioactive isotopes are placed in a carbon matrix produced by a high-temperature pyrolysis of a polymer, in which a radionuclide in the form of an inorganic salt is introduced. The use of such a matrix ensures its stability, high electrical capacity of the source, as well as radiation safety by eliminating the penetration of isotopes into the environment. Due to the stability of the matrix, it is possible to store energy with high efficiency continuously for over 20 years or more.

The invention can be used in space-related equipment (satellites, interplanetary stations, etc.), where reliable energy sources with long service life are required. It also can be used on deep sea vehicles or in remote areas (such as the Arctic or the Antarctic), as well as anywhere where it is crucial to exclude environmental pollution with radioactive isotopes.

Positive dynamics shown for applications filing

In the first 6 months of 2022, the number of applications for registration of computer programs, databases and topographies of integrated circuits has increased by 16.9% as compared to the same indicator in 2021, and by 83.4% as compared to the first half of 2020. In total, in the first half of 2022, 13,706 applications were filed for the above-mentioned intellectual property objects.

The increase in the number of filed applications is mainly ensured by the Russian applicants. Thus, in the reporting period, the number of applications filed by the Russian residents during the first 6 months in 2022 increased by 17.2% as compared to 2021 and by 84.4% compared to 2020. The share of Russian applications for computer programs, databases and topographies of integrated circuits totals 99.7%.

The number of trademark applications is also growing steadily. According to the results of the first half of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, there is a 3.5% increase in the number of trademark applications (50,792). The Russian applicants filed 39,505 applications in this period, which is 10.2% more than during the same period in 2021 (35,847 applications). The share of Russian trademark applications is 77.8%, foreign – 22.2%.

Container for collecting and transporting fragments of nuclear materials from accident sites

Patent number: 2777925

The invention relates to the field of radiation safety. To ensure effective protection against radiation, the container body and lid are cast. The container has electronic scales built into lid which allows to control the weight of nuclear fragments before they are loaded into the container. This prevents the accumulation of the critical mass that could cause an explosion.

Internal combustion engine power supply system with ammonia-based hydrogen fuel

Patent number: 2778415

The invention relates to power supply systems for internal combustion engines. The power supply system of the internal combustion engine includes a subsystem for supplying hydrogen obtained from liquid ammonia.

When the engine is running, liquid ammonia is converted to a gaseous state and decomposes, which leads to a decrease in the temperature of the gas mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen. The filter separates the elements. Nitrogen is discharged into the atmosphere, while purified hydrogen is discharged into the engine pipeline.

The invention makes it possible to increase the proportion of the combustible component, i.e. hydrogen in the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine cylinders. Reducing the proportion of non-combustible nitrogen improves energy efficiency of the engine and reduces its environmental impact.

12th meeting of the CIS Interstate Council for Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement

On August 30, 2022, the 12th meeting of the CIS Interstate Council for Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement (CIS IP Council) was held via videoconference, chaired by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian Federation to CIS IP Council, Head of Rospatent Mr. Yury Zubov. The meeting was attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the Eurasian Patent Office and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

CIS IP Council members discussed the state of affairs in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, the implementation of the CIS Economic Development Strategy 2030 and the developments in the ongoing work on the CIS Patent Information Project (CISPATENT). The Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property presented its’ activities.

Furthermore, the CIS IP Council members discussed the drafting of List of IP enforcement measures, as well as the Guidelines for determining the market value (evaluation) of intellectual property objects.

The CIS IP Council extended the term of office of Mr. Yury Zubov as Chairman of the Council for the next year. Therefore, the next 13th CIS IP Council meeting is scheduled to be held in the first half of 2023 in the Russian Federation.
