IP-Backed Loans Discussed at AIRR Platform
On December 3, 2020, the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR) held a videoconference dedicated to intellectual property rights backed loans. Representatives of the governmental bodies and businesses from 13 Russian regions participated in the meeting.
The main presentation was delivered by Senior Researcher of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) Mr. Nikolay Tsikorin. He talked about the key features of collateral lending, difficulties in estimating the value of intellectual property rights, prospects for this type of loans in Russia, as well as Rospatent proposal aimed at extending the IP-backed loans to small and medium-sized businesses within the framework of the national project entitled Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurship and Support for Individual Entrepreneurial Initiative.
Furthermore, representatives of the Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Tatarstan shared their experience in using intellectual property rights to obtain bank guarantees and loans.
Rospatent and FIPS experts also held a videoconference meeting with members of AIRR and representatives of regional businesses on 26 November. The event was dedicated to regional brands promotion.
