PURPOSE: |
To expand and restore the permeability of the lower respiratory tract |

INNOVATION: |
In most patients, a tumor in the tracheal bifurcation area is diagnosed at inoperable stages of the disease. Compression of the walls of the respiratory tract develops, leading to progressive respiratory failure, which is the main cause of a decreased life quality of such patients. In these cases, the only treatment option to maintain permeability of the lower respiratory tract is minimally invasive bronchoscopic interventions with the installation of a stent, a device that prevents the walls of the bronchi and trachea from collapsing. The set includes two metal self-expanding stents for installation in the right and left lung, securely fixed in the lumen of the respiratory tract. The sets are covered with a polymer film, which slows down the tumor sprouting into the lumen of the respiratory tract. They are also equipped with special tags for visualization of stents under X-ray control during their installation and their precise positioning. The design provides holes that coincide with the location of large bronchi, which ensures good lung ventilation, and allows for the biopsy material sampling if necessary. The stents designed to align their edges in the trachea to ensure a symmetrical placement in the lungs while opening them simultaneously. This allows to maintain ventilation of the distal bronchial sections of the right and left lungs, prevent narrowing of the respiratory tract and the threat of asphyxia, and ensure the drainage function of the bronchi of both lungs. |

SCOPE |
This invention can be used in thoracic surgery, particularly in treatment of stenosing malignant tumors of the trachea and bronchi, including tracheal bifurcation cancer. |
