How to obtain durable ceramic parts used in a wide range of applications, from cutting tools and refractories to transparent armor?

PATENT:

2794376

INVENTION:

The method for producing ceramics based on aluminum oxynitride

INNVENTOR(S):

Lysenkov Anton Sergeevich, Frolova Marianna Gennadievna, Kargin Yuri Fedorovich, Kim Konstantin Alexandrovich, Akhmadullina Naila Sayfullovna, Melnikov Mikhail Dmitrievich, Ivicheva Svetlana Nikolaevna

PATENTEE:

A. A. Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences

PURPOSE:

To obtain dense oxynitride ceramics with excellent mechanical and physico-chemical properties, which allows it to be used for the manufacture of cutting tools, refractories, infrared and visible windows, as well as for transparent armor.

INNOVATION:

Ensuring high microhardness and strength of ceramics based on optically transparent aluminum oxynitride. The production of ceramics is carried out within one stage of production, combining the synthesis of the phase of obtaining aluminum oxynitride and the production of dense ceramics by hot pressing. Reducing production to one single stage of production significantly simplifies the technology and results in dense ceramics of high purity with a relative density of 99%. Increased temperature during the production process reduces the time for obtaining ceramics.

SCOPE OF
APPLICATION:

The invention can be used for military and civilian armored vehicles, as well as for visors of armored helmets, for viewing windows of armored shields and protective visors for sappers, as well as in the manufacture of high-strength structural materials and products, in particular, for use in refractory, chemically resistant and electrical insulating products, in vacuum engineering.
