How to control HIV?

INVENTION:

Method for quantifying the latent HIV reservoir and a DNA calibrator for its implementation

PATENT:

PATENTEE:

Federal Budget Institution of Science «Central Research Institute for Epidemiology» of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing

PURPOSE:

For assessment of the course of HIV infection and evaluation of the effectiveness of drugs. The introduction of modern therapy into the practice of treating people with HIV significantly increases their life expectancy. However, a complete cure is impossible; the reason for this is the presence of the latent HIV reservoir. The latent HIV reservoir is the accumulation of HIV’s DNA in the patient's body which can lead to a resumption of active infection. That is why lifelong therapy is necessary.

INNOVATION:

Scientists from Central Research Institute for Epidemiology have developed a DNA calibrator (a plasmid with an embedded fragment of the HIV gene and one of the genes) which evaluates the latent HIV reservoir more quickly, accurately and economically than any other previously existing method. The obtained data help predict the onset and control the stages of the disease, as well as life expectancy of an HIV-infected patient from the moment of discontinuation of therapy.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION:
ПРИМЕНЕНИЯ:
