INNOVATION:

Nowadays hydrogen as an alternative energy source is attracting more and more attention. Its typical ways of storage and transportation are its compression or liquefaction. Similarly to other gases, hydrogen liquefaction leads to the reduction of its volume.

One of the problems with the hydrogen liquefaction process is the need to use multi-circuit pre-cooling, which increases the complexity of the liquefaction complexes. To solve this problem, it is proposed to pre-cool hydrogen by means of a refrigerant circuit, which is a compression refrigeration machine circuit. The circuit also includes three phase separators that separate the refrigerant into high-boiling and low-boiling components at different temperature levels. Such a mechanism provides a high degree of separation of high-boiling components from the blended refrigerant entering the low-temperature part of the plant. Thus, it is possible to eliminate additional pre-cooling circuits while maintaining high reliability of the hydrogen liquefaction plant.

For example, the use of hydrogen is common in the oil and gas and chemical industries (as a form of gas storage) as well as in the fuel energy industry (as cryogenic rocket fuel).
