PURPOSE:

For the safe operation of a robotic vehicle, in particular, when it is moving among people and vehicles, for example, on a crowded sidewalk or crosswalk.

INNOVATION:

Robotic vehicles are often relatively small in size, so various objects they encounter during operation can cover parts of the surrounding space, which can lead to adverse consequences. In the proposed solution, a mobile robot, when determining the "visual overlap zone" due to the presence of an object in a given area, can select a target position outside the zone and move to this area, being able to observe the state of the surrounding space. Based on data from lidar and camera sensors located on the robot, a 3D map is generated to determine the distance to objects in the surrounding space and to determine the trajectory and speed of the robot. During operation, the mobile robot can continuously monitor a visual signal, in particular, a traffic light signal, to determine whether crossing a crosswalk is allowed or prohibited at a given time.
