The invention of the gyroscope dates back to the 19th century. However, it is the modern proliferation of mobile electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, electronic watches, cameras, etc.), unmanned aerial vehicles, self-driving cars, etc. that ensured an explosive growth of gyroscope’s R&D and production. Gyroscopes are now used in most mobile electronic devices.
One type of highly accurate gyroscope is the Zeeman laser gyroscope (ZLG), a subtype of ring laser gyroscopes. By introducing an additional array of technical means to the known ZLG, Russian engineers have achieved a technical result that improves the accuracy of the functioning of ZLG operating under different operating conditions (e.g., before the flight of a vehicle and during the flight of a vehicle). The immediate sphere of application of the new ZLG is aviation.
