Protocol on the Protection of Industrial Designs enters into force



Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention of September 9, 1994 on the Protection of Industrial Designs, adopted on September 9, 2019 in the city of Nur-Sultan, entered into force for Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Armenia on March 17, 2021, for Russia on April 11, 2021 and for Kazakhstan on April 12. 2021.

The document expands the Eurasian patent system, allowing the applicant to obtain industrial design protection in all Member States by filing a single application to the Eurasian Patent Office.

On April 12, 2021 the EAPO Administrative Council adopted regulations necessary to implement the Protocol.

Industrial design applications will be received by the Eurasian Patent Office from June 1, 2021.
