Rospatent and FIPS representatives take part in the IP Conference organized by the Association of European Businesses


On May 26, 2021, Deputy Head of Rospatent Yury Zubov and Deputy Director of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) Roman Zakharov took part in the annual conference of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) titled “Intellectual Property: Development Trends, Judicial Practice, Challenges and Solutions”. The event was held in an online format.

The Conference started with the opening remarks by Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation and Tadzio Schilling, AEB Chief Executive Officer.

In his report, Yury Zubov pointed out the client-centric nature of Rospatent’s digital transformation model and presented Rospatent’s digital initiatives that aim at providing effective and user-friendly public IP services.

Thus, by the end of 2021, Rospatent will launch the services "Search for similar images" and "Search for similar documents". The former will allow businesses to evaluate trademark uniqueness, while the latter will allow researchers to independently verify the patentability of inventions. Both services will be available online 24/7.

Mr. Zubov also presented a projected system for comparison of 3D models of IP objects, which will allow to compare 3D models of IP objects filed for registration with 3D images of protected IP objects. The system will ensure high-quality examination with the application of automatic processes instead of manual work.

Mr. Zakharov spoke about the protection and legal framework for geographical indications (GI) and appellations of origin in Russia, as well as about the advantages of using these means of individualization, and about the quality control of products protected by GI and appellations of origin.
