Rospatent implemented APEC project “Intellectual Property Commercialization for SMEs”

As small and medium enterprises (SMEs) face a number of barriers in trading in the APEC region, including challenging issues in the field of IP utilization, in 2019 Rospatent with active participation of the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property implemented the APEC project “Intellectual Property Commercialization for SMEs”.

The aim of the project is to exchange the experience between APEC economies on best practices in IP management and commercialization for SMEs.

Co-sponsors of the project were Korea, Mexico, Peru, Philippines and Viet Nam.

During the implementation of the project the seminar “IP Commercialization for SMEs” was organized on September 10-12, 2019 in Vladivostok (Russia). APEC economies discussed the ways of solving the problems that SMEs face in certain economic aspects of IP field, such as IP commercialization, IP marketing, reduction of innovation risks in IP management, technology transfer, patenting abroad, collaboration of SMEs and large businesses as well as search and training of personnel. 24 persons from 10 APEC economies (Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Viet Nam) as well as from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) participated in the seminar.

Based on the results of the seminar the best practices on IP management and commercialization for SMEs were identified and suggestions were made on further activities to address the needs of SMEs in the IP field in APEC region.

Following the results of the project implementation the Summary Report was prepared. It is published on the official APEC website and accessible for free downloading. The publication is also available in Russian.
