Cunning Barrier: Creating a Registry Protects the Rights of Originating Companies

The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin instructed to create a Register of active substances with pharmacological activity protected by a patent for an invention. According to Dmitry Travnikov, the Director for the Provision of State Services of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of Rospatent, effective protection of Intellectual Property is of fundamental importance for bringing innovative drugs to the market. The registry should allow all interested parties to promptly receive information on existing patent rights for active substances, providing the following information: name of the substance, its structural formula or amino acid sequence, existing patent rights to it, details of the patent and its current status, data of the patent holder issued licenses, etc. The main task of the registry is to facilitate enforcement in cases where patent rights are to be enforced in the circulation of medicines.
