Improving Access to High-Quality Medicines in Russia


On 18 September, the Executive Committee of the Russian Foreign Investment Advisory Council (FIAC) met under the chairmanship of Mr. Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development.

The meeting participants represented the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Federal Customs Service, Federal Tax Service, Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), and the business community.

Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev took part in the working group on the development of health care and the pharmaceutical industry. Members of the working group discussed issues related to intellectual property rights in the pharmaceutical industry.

«Rospatent is working on providing Russians with access to the best quality medicines. The patent not only provides legal protection for the right holder, but it is also an additional standard, defining and guaranteeing the quality of medical products, resulting in many years of R&D and considerable financial investment», noted Mr. Ivliev.

Background information:

The Foreign Investment Advisory Council was established in 1994 as a result of joint efforts by the Russian Government and foreign companies to improve the investment climate in Russia. The task of the Council is to create and develop a favorable investment climate based on international experience as well as the experience of international companies in Russia. Among the FIAC members are directors of 53 global companies from various economic sectors.
