EAEU countries discussed integration prospects in the sphere of intellectual property


On June 19, 2020, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) held in videoconference format the 10th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property under the EEC College. The event was attended by delegation of Rospatent led by Committee member, the Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev. The meeting participants discussed the agenda of Eurasian integration in the field of intellectual property (IP), taking into account the latest changes, including signing of the Treaty on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin of the Eurasian Economic Union on 03.03.2020 and preparations for realisation of the common Union process related to the conduct of the Unified Customs Register of IP objects. According to Mr. Ivliev, the purpose of discussing approaches to exhaustion of the exclusive trademark right is to serve the interests of consumers, expand the range of goods and avoid abuse in the field of pricing. Of key importance was the discussion of the Russian initiative to create a Eurasian register of pharmacologically active ingredients protected by a patent for the invention: its purpose and features, its importance to ensure interests of rightholders, generic manufacturers and registration offices.
