Russia and China continue cooperation in the field of intellectual property

 

 

The 15th meeting of the Russia-China Working Group on Cooperation in Protection of Intellectual Property Rights was held under the co-chairmanship of Li Ming, Deputy Director General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, and Gleb Kuvyrkov, Director of International Cooperation Department of Rospatent.

Representatives of Russian and Chinese authorities exchanged information on the latest developments in the IP protection and enforcement, as well as on the recent progress in combating crimes against IP rights. Representatives of judicial authorities reported on the activities of courts on IP infringement cases.

The Chinese side was provided with information on the Russian practice of compulsory licensing of medicines and regulation of pharmaceutical patents.

A separate block was devoted to the issues of the business community related to IP protection and enforcement. Cases of the Chinese company Shizhuang, as well as Russian companies Baltika and Tsarskaya Privilege, were presented. A representative of the Russian Export Centre described the measures to register the "Made in Russia" designation in China.

At the end of the meeting the parties noted the importance of continuing intersessional work and agreed to exchange of information, including possible ways of solving problematic situations faced by businesses.

The outcomes of the Working Group's work will be reflected in the final document of the 27th meeting of the Russian-Chinese Sub-Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which is scheduled to be held in July 2024.
