Rospatent specialists shared their experience during the IP BRICS Examiners’ Training Program

On October 23-27, 2023, an annual Examiners’ Training of BRICS IP Offices was held in the format of a videoconference. This year, the training is held under the chairmanship of the IP Office of South Africa.
The main topics of discussion during the training were patent examination, commercialization, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in searching trademark applications. During the event, experts exchanged the latest data and approaches to resolving emerging difficulties, answered questions from colleagues and provided up-to-date information on national intellectual property systems.

On the first day of the training, experts and representatives of the IP Offices discussed the requirements for registration of patent applications and various approaches to patent examination.
The topic of the second and third days of the event was the specifics of patent examination.
On the fourth day of the training experts discussed supplementary services provided by the IP Offices to small and medium-sized enterprises in order to support their development. The experts shared as well methods and strategies aimed to help patent holders sell their patents or issue licenses for them.

The last day was dedicated to two topical issues: the use of artificial intelligence technology to search for trademark applications and women in the intellectual property where the participants talked over the global mentoring program for women.
The last day of the training ended with a general discussion of experts and closing remarks by the representatives of the IP Offices.
